Privacy Policy

How we collect, use, and protect your information.

Last updated: August 23, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how World Dancing Inc., a Delaware nonprofit corporation and 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity doing business as World Dance Foundation (“we” or the “Foundation”), handles information in connection with the World Dance Foundation website and mobile app (together, the “Service”).

Information we collect

  • Contact information — your name and email address, received when you sign in with Google, Apple, or an emailed link, to create and identify your account.
  • Content you submit — the posts, photos and videos, comments, profile details and bios, listings, messages, applications, and event RSVPs you create on the Service.
  • Directory information — some studio, vendor, and practitioner listings are compiled from publicly available sources and clearly marked unverified until claimed by their owner.
  • Usage data — aggregate, non-identifying analytics about how the Service is used (e.g., pages viewed), to understand and improve it.
  • Diagnostics — crash and performance data to detect and fix errors. This is not tied to your identity.
  • Technical and log data — limited data such as IP address and request information, used for security, abuse prevention, and rate-limiting.
  • Cookies — a sign-in/session cookie required for authentication; a cookie recording the country your request came from, so we know whether consent is required before anything else is set; and, only where you have given consent, cookies set by Google's advertising tag to measure which of our grant-funded advertisements bring people to the Foundation.

Public sport records

Competition results, placements, and statistics are public sport records compiled from public federation and competition sources; they are not collected from you through your account, and may reference competitors of any age as a matter of public record.

How we use information

We use information to operate, secure, and improve the Service: to provide accounts, profiles and directories, display the content you choose to share, enable messaging and event RSVPs, send transactional and notification emails you ask for, understand usage through aggregate analytics, fix errors through diagnostics, prevent abuse, and comply with law. We do not sell your personal information, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. Where you have consented, Google's advertising tag measures which of our grant-funded advertisements bring people to the Foundation; we never send it your name, email address, or any identifier that would connect an action to you personally — only the fact that an action happened and, for a gift, its amount. Any further use Google makes of what its own tag collects is governed by Google's policies, not ours.

How information is shared

We share information only with service providers that help us run the Service, under appropriate safeguards: hosting and serverless functions (Vercel), our database (Neon/Postgres), media storage (Vercel Blob), sign-in providers (Google and Apple), email delivery (Postmark and DreamHost), payment processing (Stripe), error & performance diagnostics (Sentry), and advertising measurement (Google, only where you have consented). We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the Foundation, our users, or the public.

Cookies and measurement

Our own visitor statistics are cookieless and run for everyone; they tell us which pages are read, not who read them.

Separately, we use Google’s advertising tag to see which of our grant-funded advertisements bring people to the Foundation. It sets cookies. Where the law requires consent before a non-essential cookie is set — the European Union, the EEA and the United Kingdom — we ask first, and the tag is not loaded into the page at all unless you accept. If you decline, or simply never answer, it is never loaded. Elsewhere it loads without a prompt.

The tag is Google's, not ours. We use it only to count actions, we do not receive or store a profile of you from it, and what Google does with what it collects is governed by Google's own policies. You can change your mind at any time using the control at the end of this page.

Payments

Donations and other payments are processed by Stripe; we do not store full card numbers. We retain transaction records (such as amount, date, and the email used) as required for accounting, tax, and legal purposes. Purchases are not available within the iOS app.

Your privacy choices and controls

You can edit or claim your profile, opt out of notification emails, and block other users so their posts and comments no longer appear to you. You can delete your account at any time from Account → Privacy & safety, which permanently removes your account and content (financial records are retained as described above). For published directory listings, you can claim a listing to manage it, or request correction or removal. To exercise any access, correction, or deletion right, use the in-app controls or email info@worlddancefoundation.com.

Data retention and security

We keep information for as long as needed to provide the Service and for legitimate operational and legal purposes; when you delete your account we remove your account and content, retaining only what the law requires (such as financial records). We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards (including encryption in transit), but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

Accounts are intended for users 13 and older (16 in the EU/EEA). The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them through an account. Public competition records may reference minors as a matter of public sport record, but creating an account and posting content is limited to eligible ages. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us account information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes and contact

We may update this Policy from time to time; material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above. Questions or requests: info@worlddancefoundation.com.
